Each year, we select Scholars, and guide them through the challenging college selection process. Among other support, we counsel Scholars and parents to help them identify a list of colleges/universities, we provide computers, test prep tutors and test prep books. We cover the cost of testing, application fees, and sending test score reports. We work closely with our Scholars and families on the financial aid applications and cover the costs associated with financial aid applications. Each Scholar has their own mentor to help with the admission process which takes around six months and and an investment of 200 hours. We facilitate campus visits so that our Scholars can fully experience a college and whether it will be a good fit for them.  We have learned that it costs a minimum of $5,000 to support each Scholar in our endeavors.

Once enrolled in a college or university, we counsel Scholars as needed during their academic career. Our goal is to also provide monetary assistance for expenses not covered by their financial aid package such as books, a laptop, transportation, travel abroad, emergency situations and other needs deemed necessary and appropriate as determined by the Executive Committee.

Julian G. Finley Scholar's Award Fund

Julian G. Finley grew up in the Rosedale area of Birmingham, Alabama and graduated from Homewood High School in 1979.

With permission from Julian G. Finley's family, College Choice Foundation has established the Julian G. Finley Scholar's Fund in Julian's memory.
